What’s brewing: Lucky you – Craft brewers release new beers ahead of St. Paddy’s day

With temperatures jumping up and down every other day, it’s hard to decide which beer is right for the season.

Hefeweizen for warm weather? Stout for cold? Who knows what to do? It’s a good thing there are lots of releases in the next few days that will provide enough variety to satisfy anyone.

Here’s what’s coming up:

 O'Connor's Imperial Vienna Pale Ale

O’Connor’s Imperial Vienna Pale Ale

From O’Connor Brewing Company, look for Imperial Vienna Pale Ale, out today. It’s part of the Steel Battalion series and it has Vienna and Munich malts. It comes in at 8 percent ABV and 60 IBUs. You can even get it in 22 oz. bottles.

At Pleasure House Brewing, Sunken Truck, a Belgian Strong Dark Ale is on tap, with an 8.3 percent ABV.

On Saturday, head over to Smartmouth Brewing Company for the release of IV Chocolate Porter. It’s an homage to the brewery’s president, Porter Hardy, who is the fourth in his family to carry that name. It’s available both on draft and in 16 oz. cans. Bonus: Smartmouth is also releasing a brewed root beer for Hardy’s son.

Wasserhund Brewing Company releases a Maibocking Shepherd beer Saturday.

At Reaver Beach Brewing Company you can pick up Reavers Prayer (Blend #2) in bottles. It’s a sour blond ale fermented with apricots.

Young Veterans Brewing Company releases Shore Leave Saturday. It’s a light American Ale brewed with cucumber, lemon zest and basil.

Home Republic now has a sour ale on draft.

Tonight is Shamrockin’ in Ghent, the biggest St. Patrick’s Day block party around. The festivities, all on Colley Avenue, benefit Hope House Foundation. Drink tickets are $5 each.

Don’t forget, Kiss My Cask at Back Bay Brewing in Virginia Beach is coming up on March 25. The festival features more than 25 breweries and 35 cask-conditioned beers. Your $40 ticket includes a tasting glass, a stadium cup, tastes of all 35 casks and two beer tickets. A $10 general admission ticket includes a beer ticket for a non-cask beer.
