Organizers of 757 Battle of the Beers said this week the event will be held on Sept. 9 at Hunt Club Farm in Virginia Beach.
The fifth year of the event brings a few changes.
“We are working on additional competitions between breweries so the term ‘battle’ will have even more meaning,” said Shawn Fischer, the event chair, in an email.
That includes events such as an obstacle course, beer trivia and other additions that will make either a longer day, or be held leading up to the event, he said.
It also adds to the amount of money that could be collected and donated to the winning brewery’s charity of choice.
The event will continue to support local charities and participating breweries will have more say where the money goes, Fischer said.
The beer categories will be determined within the next 60 days.
Whiskey Kitchen is a naming sponsor this year, he added.
Don’t remember what the event is? It’s a beer competition exclusive to Hampton Roads brewers that raises money for local charities. Last year, more than $20,000 was raised for four charities. The number of local brewers has increased last year, which should only make the competition better.
Last year’s first place winners were:
Brewer’s Choice: Commonwealth Brewing Company’s Orange Brett Saison
People’s Choice: Big Ugly Brewing Company’s Hot Pursuit Pineapple Habanero Blonde
Best IPA: Reaver Beach Brewing Co’s Hammerhead IPA
